What can we learn from mushrooms? These organisms are part of the vast and intricate world of fungi that we encounter daily, with some species even cohabitating within the human body. Fungi represent a kingdom of life that has navigated millions of years of evolution, offering us insights into resilience and adaptation.
From the Ground/Sing a Polyphonic Song is an augumented experience that invites audience to explore mushrooms as a lens to view alternative forms of existence beyond the capitalist framework, emphasising fungi's role in ecosystems and as metaphors for interconnectedness and resilience in a world full of uncertainties. By engaging with our senses and oral traditions, we aim to uncover overlooked aspects of life and challenge our perceptions of progress and coexistence. Focusing on urban environments, it seeks to reveal the hidden potentialities of living in our everyday spaces, encouraging a reconsideration of our relationship with the natural world and highlighting the possibilities for more symbiotic forms of living.
By scanning a QR code, participants enter a digital forest where they can select mushrooms to randomly explore different narrative scenes. Each interaction reveals a new chapter, with accompanying animations enhancing the storytelling. This project seamlessly blends visual storytelling with interactive media, offering a captivating journey through an ever-evolving narrative.
The idea of progress in shaping our perception of events and our interpretation of history. Even when faced with evidence of the negative consequences of progress, such as environmental degradation or social inequality, we still tend to view these events within the framework of progress. This project provokes people to notice other temporal possibilities in our living environment, allowing us to look for what has been overlooked/left- behind and the different structures of existence from the ones fuelled by capitalist mind-set.
